Current Employer: Vaya Health
Current Position: Application Developer
Please describe your current or past work experience:
I spent years in a variety of trades including retail, customer service, and several manual labor disciplines until 2015. Concurrent to that, I did general I.T. work and built affordable websites for small businesses and non profits. In 2015, I became a service desk technician for a corporation, then in 2016 I leveraged all my experience along with a little luck to become an application QA tester at my current organization. In 2018, leadership selected me to fill an open application engineering position after considering my performance and commitment to learning and development. On November of this year, I will have worked at my organization for nine years.
Please list any special training or skills:
I have served on the board of directors of our co-op for almost four years (as of November), a couple years as vice president, therefore I am knowledgeable and experienced in matters of board operation and leadership. Otherwise, my experience in technology and retail have both proven useful.
Why would you like to serve on the HCC Board of Directors?
I enjoy being a member of the board of directors and would like to continue to serve our owners by volunteering my time to participate in processes that steer our co-op’s future.
What is your favorite part of being an owner at HCC?
Participating in a food cooperative and the growth of the cooperative movement.
What experience or involvement have you had with HCC and our community?
I’ve been an owner for more than ten years and have served on the board of directors for close to four years. During my time as a director, I have helped organize and operate several owner appreciation and recruitment events.
What have you done in the past that demonstrates the skills to benefit the board?
As a director and former leader, I have participated in numerous decisions that have led the co-op to where it is today. I have also participated in board event planning and operation, as well as being a photographer at a couple of those events and coordinating with local musicians and businesses to provide entertainment and refreshments. My technological aptitude has had an impact on board processes.
What is your vision for the future of our cooperative?
My vision is one of continued success, growth, and accessibility. I want our co-op to continue to be successful and our operations and ownership to continue to grow. I furthermore envision a co-op that is more accessible and diverse with the passing of each year. May we identify and eliminate, within reason, all barriers to ownership, participation, and patronage.
